Self Portrait
Self Portrait Reflection
To what extent does a work of art depend on the artist’s point of view?
It depends on the artists point of view because it is capturing a moment in time that is unique. When you take a picture of someone the angle that you take it at can dictate whether or not the subject is happy, sad angry or confused. For example in the picture directly above you can see my mouth open as if i was screaming for joy but if the picture was taken form behind me at the same moment it may look like i'm screaming at the sky. While if it was taken from the side it might look like i'm leaning back laughing so many things from the artists perspective change the outcome of a piece of art.
How are the characteristics and expressive features of art and design used to create a self-portrait?
I think that self portraits really need to be an in the moment thing a capturing of ones self within a perfect moment that captures their emotion and their setting and reflects who they are as a person as well as to how it is reflected on those around them. Using your artistic creativity to create something that is unique to you and the moment your living in is important whether your remembering old times with friend or creating new memories with them.

Photoshop tutorial
This was a mini project intended to teach us some basic photoshop skills that we could improve on. This is one tutorial that taught me how to put cracks onto someones face in a photo.
Street art independent study
Top Left: This is the first large freehand wall painting that I did. It was a challenging piece for me to finish because I was just beginning to understand how the moved and I found it hard to get a defined edge on the letters but it came out pretty good.
Top Right: This was the second piece that I made. On this piece instead of painting free hand to create my letters I boxed off the three rectangle and painted a base layer in them.Once the paint dried I used tape to create the letters that i wanted and then painted with many different colors and then once it had all dried I peeled back the tape to reveal the letters underneath the mosh pit of colors.

Bottom Left: This being the third piece that I painted on our wall. I didn't want to be cheesy but I wanted to put something that said AHS so I started by doing the AHS free hand and this attempt at free hand worked much better. The we are part of it were probably the easiest letters for me to paint during the project.
Bottom Right: This was the last big painting that I did during this project. Two of the juniors in my class spent this project creating a clothing logo that they called E=Mc squared and they wanted to tag it on the wall and put something up in spray paint. They wanted a slogan to represent their company and so I offered them my help putting it up and I suggested the phrase Dress to Impress and I used free hand to help me finish this last project.

Independent art project Reflection
This Independent Project was a lot of fun for me to complete and challenge myself with a medium of art that I hadn’t previously experimented with.
To be Accountable on this project was a challenge because we were designing the product ourselves but it proved to be a challenge that I met during this project with gusto. For me being accountable during this project meant that I was showing up to class each day on time and getting to work on painting I had to be aware of what I had done the day before and what had worked well and what had not worked so well. I then had to use this knowledge to hold myself accountable to refinement.
The Research, Skills and Strategies part of this project was a crucial element to making it what I was. For the research part of it I used YouTube as a major resource. Graffiti is a very visual and experience based art form. To learn how to paint graffiti I watched many videos of people doing “throw ups”, I watched videos of people giving how to graffiti tutorials and a couple videos about the graffiti culture, how it came to be and the lives of the people who do it every day. Watching these videos alongside looking at a lot of graffiti in books and on the internet I worked towards creating skills to paint with. I also used these to create strategies to fix paintings I may have messed up or strategies to create something I hadn’t thought of before.
Creativity was a crucial part of this project. Because there is not a ton of people out there teaching graffiti, There is little information on the internet and accessible to everyday people. Because it is street art, people learn from others who already know how to do it well. However when Graffiti as we know it was invented people had to go out on their own and learn how to paint with their own style. I had a little more to work with then those people did. I still had to learn to make my hand move at the right distance and speed to not get drips on a line. At first to do things like make a simple letter 3-D was a bit of a challenge. By changing how I was making the letters flow and learning how to put a base layer, overlap and shade paints to smooth the edges I refined the way I painted. As far creativity in what I was painting I had to start basic as a novice spray painter. To get some ideas on what kind of letters to paint and how to paint them I just looked up graffiti alphabets on the internet and came up with a plethora of different style to draw my own from. I then used freehand as well as an assortment of improvised and printed stencils to paint messages on the wall we used that I thought would be good to see when driving into school. I used messages such as “be Free” which I later painted over to write “Live Happy”, Later I added the paintings saying “Love Rules All, WE ARE AHS” and finally the “Dress to Impress” which I did with two other students who wanted to do it for their Logo.
I definitely had to be flexible with this project. If it rained I would not be able to paint so I had to spend the day watching videos and learning what else I could do to improve my painting. I also consistently was asking for people’s feedback on what I was doing and refining it more. At one point Roxy told me that I needed to fill in all the negative space and that was when I started putting more of a background into the painting.
I was metacognitive in this project by generally having the best improvement attitude I could there were times when I was painting that I would stop painting and step away to look at what I was doing and how I could refine it and make it more like the paintings that I had been doing research on. I had to go over my work multiple times and really focus on refining it beyond my original idea and expand on it.
