This GOP debate was very unique. While the candidates did continue to squabble like children, interrupt the other candidates and the moderators their focus on the topics was very different from how they focused during the last debate. When GOP candidates talk, they are usually trying to appeal to an audience using the Authority, in group loyalty and purity/ sanctity morals that the GOP seems to emphasize more than the harm/care and fairness morals. However in this debate they really seemed to be trying to appeal to an audience that responds more to these values because this is where they are lacking votes. The candidates focused for the most part on economics and they are recognizing the trouble that the middle class is in a crisis, so they need to care about common people and level the playing field for everyone.
Part of the Campaign strategy among almost all the Presidential candidates this year is they are all trying to take advantage of people being sick of how our government is running and people like Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are appealing to many people because they are talking about doing something different from how politics have been in the past.
