What a time week two was! It started out slow building concert calendars and by the weeks end I have taken part in a furniture is art auction done another radio show and listened to a ton more music. This week I learned a lot more about using adobe audition and how to make all the audio you record flow together better than I was able to last week. I made more concert calendars and got good ideas on where to go see live music as a result. I learned a bit about the business end of operating the station and some of the rules that the station has to follow to be on air.
Building concert calendars is not the most exciting thing to do in the world but it is a quintessential part of the KDUR programming that I Have heard on the radio since a young age. Making the Calendar is not as hard as it might seem, it just takes some minor skills in adobe audition to piece together what is being said. I made some small mistakes in the second one I made but they were easily corrected. I had some difficulty at first with getting the tracks to line up and flow together but I eventually got solid product.
For my radio show this week things seemed to go a bit smoother than the first week. During the first week my transitions had more gaps of dead air in them and my speaking was shaky sometimes. During the second week these troubles improved greatly I just felt more confident about what I was saying into the Microphone and I stumbled over my words a little less. The Station tech is something I have been continuing to work on and gain more knowledge of but I do still make small mistakes. One particular occasion during Friday’s radio show put the radio in dead silence for a couple moments. I was playing a hip-hop album by the artist Heems and it was about halfway through the song I managed to eject the CD while it was on the air, this is one of the worst things that can happen to the station. Luckily I already had another song cued up in another disk player so I was able to just bring up the fader volume and play the sing without too much interruption.
One of the Highlights of the week was the furniture is art auction. This is a fundraising event that KDUR Puts on every year to help keep the radio running and on the air. The attendees buy thirty dollar tickets and go to the Durango art center where local artists have displayed their art work that is also a piece of furniture. Then there is an auction where beautiful pieces of art are sold as furniture to the highest bidder and the proceeds benefit the radio. The role I played was to help the station staff set up and bring in all the art pieces there were a lot of beautiful art pieces that looked like good functional furniture. I really enjoyed helping with this because it was another good opportunity to give back to KDUR which is part of why we go on these internships.
